Shoe sizing varies significantly between brands and countries of origin. Always ask for the insole measurement in centimetres, as this is the most reliable way to determine fit. EU sizes printed on shoes from different manufacturers can differ by a full size.

Inspect the sole wear pattern in photos. Uneven wear can indicate structural issues that affect comfort. Check the heel counter, toe box, and midsole for signs of compression or cracking, especially on running shoes and boots.

For leather shoes, look at the condition of the upper material. Surface scratches can often be polished out, but deep creases and cracked leather are harder to restore. Ask about odour, as this can be difficult to eliminate from closed-toe shoes.

Clean shoes thoroughly before photographing. Photograph both the top and bottom, including the sole tread and any brand markings. Mention the EU and US sizes along with the insole measurement.

Be upfront about any heel wear, sole separation, or missing insoles. Shoes that have been professionally resoled or repaired can still command good prices if the work is mentioned clearly.
